The idea to make modern African sculpture accessible to Czech collectors and lovers of art occurred in 2005 to Miroslava Sodomková, the former wife of Ondřej Homolka. Since her tragic death Ondřej Homolka has continued in her shoes and imports stone statues from Zimbabwe, mainly from the Tengenenge art community, to the Czech Republic and sells them further and exhibits them. All sculptures are sculpted by hand from stone that is also mined manually so that it does not get damaged. Even though they are modern African sculptures, the inspiration by traditional African culture is evident. The history of modern Zimbabwe sculpture started in the 1960s and since then the local sculptors have achieved major success. However, currently the artists are harshly affected by the ongoing political and economic crisis.
