Londýnská Elementary School

In the pleasant Prague quarter of Prague 2, near Náměstí Míru, is the popular Londýnská Elementary School. This elementary school follows the Free Elementary School curriculum, which puts emphasis on learning in a wider context by means of integrating different school subjects.

Londýnská Elementary School goes up to 9th grade, with the first grades (years one to four) having 3 classes in each year and the second grades (years five to nine) having 2 classes in each year. The school also runs an after-school nursery, a school club, and a school cafeteria. Among the school’s amenities are two gyms, a schoolyard, a media library (a computer lab equipped with Apple computers) as well as a school workshop. A computer network of approximately 100 computers is installed in the school so that pupils have Internet access in each classroom to enhance learning.

The school puts emphasis on increased cooperation between teachers, students, and parents. Students can participate in the organization of school life by means of attending the school Parliament, in which they can discuss issues, make suggestions, and give constructive criticisms concerning the school’s activities and thus also naturally develop their communicative and social skills. The cooperation between children, parents, and teachers is also improved by means of verbal assessments and open communication with the pupils’ parents both on the web and at individual ’tripartite’ meetings between the parents, students, and teachers. The school also organizes a wide array of after-school activities and courses for children in a range of various topics.
