The French Institute is a true oasis for all the Francophiles located in Prague. Apart from French language courses, a gallery and a café, this organization offers also a library with a rich sortiment of books, magazines, CDs, DVDs, VHSs and CD-roms.
The French Institute library is located on Stepanska street, not far from Wenceslas Square, and offers to the public documents and media from many fields of knowledge and culture. Even though most of the offered books, magazines and other media are in French, the library offers also Czech translations of important works of French literature. Also featured is literature of fact regarding various aspects of the French society and culture as well as current French press.
The good news for anyone interested in the services of the French Institute Library is that you can use all the library’s media on site for free. In case you want to borrow something for home, you, however, need to be sign up as a member and pay the membership fee. For the signed-up users there is free Wi-Fi available in the library. The membership in the library is free for the students of the French language courses organized by the French Institute. If you happen to feel overwhelmed by all the interesting information about the French-language world and culture, you might appreciate the Café 35, a cozy coffee house which will transport you straight to the atmosphere of the streets of Paris and where you can have a rest above a cup of coffee and a croissant.
