The Library of the American Center in Prague

Even though English-language books are nowadays rather easily accessible in Prague, the range of their offer is still rather limited and their prices can be rather high. One option open to all those interested in the English-language world is using the American center run by the US Embassy in Prague.

The American Center library offers about one thousand books to read or browse on site. Most of the books are from the field of literature of fact dealing with topics such as US politics and diplomacy or life in the USA in general. Also featured are encyclopedias, photography books as well as documentaries and movies which can be watched in individual video-units. One of the library’s baits is the option to browse an up-to-date selection of many US-published magazines and journals - both popular and scientific. The library also offers access to some online databases of articles.

Besides running the library, the American center also offers a rich cultural and educational program which includes movie projections, exhibitions, discussion meetings and lectures. The center’s website is a rich source of information which might be useful to those who are thinking of studying or travelling in the USA or to those who just want to learn something new and interesting.
