If you happen to be interested in Spanish and Hispanic American culture, you shouldn’t miss the Carlos Fuentes Library which is run in Prague by the Cervantes Institute. The Cervantes Institute is located in Madrid and takes care of promoting the Spanish-language culture all around the world.
The Prague branch of the Cervantes Institute located in the Na Rybnicku street was inaugurated by the Spanish prince and princess in 2005. Apart from the library, the Cervantes Institute features also Spanish language courses, the DELE language exams and a wide array of cultural events in the areas of fine arts, film, music or theater.
The Carlos Fuentes library (named after the famous Mexican writer) was founded in the Cervantes Institute at the beginning of 2006 and its readers can choose from a rich selection of books and other media dealing with the culture of Spain and of the countries where Spanish is the official language. The book offer of the library features language textbooks, encyclopedias, current press, CDs, DVDs, sheet music, maps and much more. Most documents are in Spanish but there are also documents in Czech, Catalan, Galician, and Basque. All the books and media are available free of charge for on-site study. To borrow books for home or to use the Wi-Fi Internet in the library one needs to have a library card which can be obtained for a fee.
