Prague Christian Library

Libraries in Prague

The Prague Christian Library aims at offering all Christians and researchers, as well as anyone else interested in accessing rich literature dealing with this important and fascinating religion, a variety of information and reading material, as well as a range of research material. At present the library offers approximately 5,000 books, videotapes, DVDs and CDs in English and Czech.

The father of the idea of a Christian library in Prague is Willard Black, the director of the Institute for Christian Studies, who - in the post-revolutionary year of 1990 - recognized the deficiency of Christian sources in the Czech Republic. Black’s idea was later realized in 1997 by Jim and Laurie Barnes, thanks to whose relentless attempts the library was founded as a non-governmental independent institution and settled down at its present location between Olšanské Square and Flora.

All of the the available media can be browsed in a well-organized online catalogue but the library staff will be happy to offer you advice as well. The library is open to the general public, however if you are interested in borrowing some of the library’s books or other media, it is necessary to pay a registration fee of CZK 300 per year, with discounts available for students, pensioners and the disabled. The basic borrowing period for most materials is three weeks with the convenient option of extensions. Visit the the Prague Christian Library and gain better and deeper knowledge of the religion which is indisputably one of the major pillars of Western civilization.
