The Modrany Gulch (Modranska rokle) is located south of the center of Prague in the area between the Prague quarters of Pisnice, Modrany and Libus and is situated by the Pisnice and Libus creeks. The whole forest area has been made a protected natural reserve since it embodies the original landscape character of the otherwise rather densely settled area.
The Modrany Gulch features an educational route on which all visitors can get to know the unique local fauna, flora, geological features and history. The route is easily walkable - leading mainly on an asphalt road - is accessible from both sides of the gulch and is suitable even for cyclists, people with baby coaches etc. While taking a walk in the Modrany Gulch, notice the former quarries and the water retention reservoir with a children’s playground in the vicinity.
Not everyone knows that in the 1930’s the Modrany Gulch used to be called Doly (The Mine) and was a popular trip destination featuring a restaurant for light refreshments. Until the beginning of the 20th century the Modrany Gulch used to also feature a lot of precious plants including some unusual ferns. You can easily enter the Modrany Gulch by taking a bus to the Piskova stop.
