Prague’s Vyšehrad is one of the most romantic places in Prague. Whether you ascend it from Podolí or enter from the direction of the Vyšehrad metro station and Congress Center, this unique historical place will certainly charm you.
The current Vyšehrad is a park in its substance, but an unconventional one at that as it plays host to the Czech National cemetery, a legendary cemetery with graves and monuments of many important Czechs, a Roman basilica, ruins of a Gothic palace and the famous Bath of Libuše, where the legendary priestess allegedly bathed with men whom she then threw to their deaths from the high cliffs of Vyšehrad.
It is Libuše who forecast the famous future of Prague from this place and many other important personalities of Czech and Slovak mythology that the Vyšehrad complex has been indelibly connected with. It is therefore an intriguing idea to take a book of Old Czech Legends to the park with you (Antonin Jirásek’s book is a favorite).
