Rudolfinum Gallery

Galleries and Museums in Prague

The Rudolfinum Gallery is situated in a newly reconstructed neo Renaissance building next to the Vltava River in the vicinity of the Charles University Faculty of Arts, the Academy of Decorative Arts and the Museum of Decorative Arts.

The building was constructed between 1876 and 1881 and opened ceremoniously 4 years later as a multi-purpose cultural complex, which to this day houses a concert hall and exhibition rooms. In the 1920s and 1930s the Rudolfinum served as the seat of the Czechoslovak parliament. The Rudolfinum gallery opened its doors in the Rudolfinum complex in 1994.

The Rudolfinum features mainly exhibitions of contemporary Czech and foreign art. An important criterion for exhibition projects on display in Rudolfinum is not only their quality, but also their position within international context. Many exhibitions are held as a result of close cooperation with foreignn institutions. The gallery displays works from the international art scene from famous artists as well as up-and-coming, emerging artists, presenting individual and collective projects. If you go to see any of the interesting exhibitions that are regularly held in Rudolfinum, do not forget to stop by and relax in the pleasant café in the column hall and enjoy a cup of delicious coffee. The Rudolfinum is definitely worth a pleasant afternoon of your time.
