Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia

Galleries and Museums in Prague

Located in the sought after and charming Old Town district of Prague and situated in the oldest Gothic building the city has to offer is the Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia where the National Gallery houses its collection of Medieval art from Bohemia and Central Europe.

Founded by Princess Agnes of the Premyslid dynasty in 1231 the Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia is a gorgeous structure escaped demolition during the Old Town and Jewish Quarter slum clearance due to the success of the Union for the Renewal of the Convent of the Blessed Agnes.

In 1963 the National Gallery reconstructed the Convent of St. Agnes and has housed the collection of medieval art from Bohemia and Central Europe ever since the year 2000. The exhibition centers mainly on the development of 14th century Czech art and sculptures, plus panel paintings from the 15th century that clearly draw influence from other European countries. If you wish to learn more about medieval art in Bohemia and Central Europe, pay a visit to the Convent of St. Agnes of Bohemia and spend an educational afternoon with art history.
