The Golden Ring House, operated by City Gallery Prague is located in the center of Prague’s charming Old Town and is situated on a tiny tucked away cobblestone lane near the evocative Týn Church. This exhibition space is dedicated to showcasing Czech 20th century art as well as contemporary artists.
Orginally the gorgeous medieval Golden Ring House was comprised of two buildings that were later connected into one building. The medieval section of one of the buildings is still intact and features Gothic cellars, a corridor with barrel vaulting and fragments of a 15th century wall painting.
The gallery showcases a permanent exhibition that presents the best artists of the 20th century in Czech lands including Toyen, Josef Šíma, Jan Zrzavý and Jiří Kolář. The contemporary art that is exhibited here is to be found in temporary shows that focus on various art schools or on one artist in particular. The second floor of the building boasts a reading room where you can have a look through catalogues, art publications, City Gallery Prague publications and more. After visiting the gallery you can stop by the popular Týnská literary café located in the rear part of the building.
